Teeth Whitening

Teeth whitening can be a very effective way of lightening the natural colour of your teeth without removing any of the tooth surface.

Like hair and skin, teeth vary in colour. Very few people have brilliant white teeth and as we get older teeth can become more discoloured. Drinks such as tea, coffee and red wine and also smoking can also stain the teeth.

We offer two types of tooth whitening

Poladay Teeth Whitening

The patient will need to see the dentist for an initial consultation. The dentist will then take impressions of the patients’ teeth so that custom made whitening trays can be constructed at the laboratory. Once the trays have been manufactured the patient is given the Poladay Whitening Kit which contains 10 syringes of 6% hydrogen peroxide tooth whitening gel. The whitening gel is placed into the trays which are worn for 45 minutes per day for 4-14 days depending on the dentists’ advice.

Results can be maintained by topping up the whitening a few times a year for one or two days. Top up syringes can be purchased from the practice.

Enlighten

The Enlighten whitening systems is the “Rolls Royce” of tooth whitening treatments. It is the only system in the world to guarantee that the teeth will get to a VITA shade B1 (which is the whitest shade on a regular dentist guide shade) and this applies to every single patient regardless of starting colour, age or dietary habits. There is less sensitivity than with other whitening systems so is particularly good if patients suffer with sensitive teeth.

What Does Enlighten Treatment Involve?

Following a consultation with the dentist, impressions are taken of the patients teeth and sent to the Enlighten dental lab where ultra comfortable custom made tooth whitening trays are made.

Enlighten tooth serum is given to the patient at this stage to use instead of their normal toothpaste. The patient uses this serum while the trays are being constructed (normally two weeks) and this helps ensure that the teeth are in an optimum state ready to start the whitening process.

Once the trays have been manufactured the patient returns to the surgery and is given a 2 week Enlighten Take Home Kit. The kit contains Carbamide Peroxide whitening gel which is placed into the whitening trays which are worn for 14 consecutive nights.

On the 15th day the patient returns to the practice and the dentist carries out a second treatment, using the patients’ trays, which takes only 40 minutes.

Results can be maintained by topping up the whitening for one night every other month. An extra whitening syringe is given to the patient for this purpose which should last a year. Further top up syringes can then be purchased from the practice annually.
